About Mary Ingles Chapter, NSDAR

The Mary Ingles Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was organized on November 8, 1934.

The chapter was named for Mary Ingles, the first white woman known to enter any part of Kentucky. She was captured by Shawnee Indians at her home in Draper Meadows, in what is now Virginia, and brought to Kentucky as a prisoner in 1755. She escaped while on a salt-making trip at Big Bone Lick in present-day Boone County, Kentucky.
